Campbelltown is famous as a production line for elite sportsmen and sportswomen. Think Matildas fullback, Alanna Kennedy – a star of the current Australian's Women's soccer team. There's Chris Lawrence – the former rugby league product who went from St Gregory's College, to the Wests Tigers and eventually to the Australian side. One of the youngest rising stars though is baseball player Mitchell Austin. Mitchell's talents were even officially recognised during the 2022 Campbelltown Australia Day awards where he was presented with the Sportsperson of the Year. It's been a meteoric rise for the young star. After plying his trade for the Macarthur Orioles, Mitchell went on to kit up for the Sydney Blue Sox – in Australia's premier baseball completion. His ability was then noticed by those in America, where eventually earned a professional contract. He has also taken it upon himself to pass on his knowledge to up and coming players by way of coaching. It is clear that the name Mitchell Austin is one that everyone should be looking out for in the near future. On behalf of the entire Campbelltown community, congratulations again on a well deserve Australia Day award again, Mitchell.
