It is always devastating when someone suffers a serious illness or injury. But when it's a child, it is particularly heart breaking. Recently the Campbelltown Macarthur Advertiser highlighted the battle faced by four-year-old Rylan Hallsworth. Only months ago Rylan was a typical four year old. However, at the start of the year his parents Natasha and Trent noticed changes that were 'out of character'. Rylan was eventually diagnosed with a rare terminal genetic condition called Metachromatic Leukadystrophy. Rylan is now unable to walk unassisted. Soon he will require a feeding tube and will be non-verbal. Rylan has also been given between two and five years to live following the diagnosis. As a parent, I can't even imagine what Natasha and Trent are going through. It is truly a parent's worst nightmare. It is heartening to see the support from the community though. Already a go fund me page designed to help cover the purchase of wheelchairs and a van has reached the half way mark. It's another example of the Campbelltown community digging deep. To Natasha, Trent, Rylan and all your friends and family, both I and the entire Campbelltown community are behind you and thinking of you.
